Areas that I specialize in include: working with all types of families; adoptive, foster, and kinship, adult/youth adoptees, transracial parenting, communication/conflict, life transitions, childhood trauma, child development, as well as depression, anxiety, stress, and other mental health diagnosis.
My approach is gentle and eclectic, I view therapy as person-centered and collaborative. You are the expert of yourself and sometimes it's helpful to have someone to listen to understand. I like to provide validation, exploration, and support. The environment we are in is important to consider and I think about the family system, parenting styles, relationships, generational trauma, systemic racism, larger society, etc. and all these impacts. I am very passionate about supporting individuals and family members through trauma and crisis, or a stressful time period.
Building trust and rapport within the therapeutic relationship is important to me. I am also a parent and I know that parenting is one of the hardest jobs you can have, and “adulting” while parenting is hard too. I like to normalize this hard stuff and validate feelings. I believe that we are all out there trying to do our best.
