Deirdre Otis is a licensed social worker with broad experience across child welfare, school-based, and healthcare settings. She earned her undergraduate degree from the College of Saint Benedict and her Master of Social Work from Saint Catherine University, where her academic focus included grief counseling and child welfare. She also completed a clinical internship utilizing the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT), strengthening her trauma-informed practice.
Deirdre currently serves as a social worker in the Investigations Unit with Ramsey County Child Protection. Her professional work centers on child safety, family engagement, and supporting permanency outcomes through a trauma-informed and culturally responsive lens. She is committed to approaching children and families with dignity and respect, recognizing the impact of loss, trauma, and systemic involvement while promoting stability and connection.
In addition to her professional experience, Deirdre brings perspective as an adoptive and biological parent and long-term foster care provider, having supported over 50 foster placements. This lived experience informs her practice by strengthening her commitment to empathy, relationship-based work, and maintaining connections for youth and families whenever safely possible, while enhancing her understanding of the complexities of child welfare and permanency.
