Nicole Deters

Biography

Nicole has over 27 years’ experience in the nonprofit and public sector. She has served as Executive Director of several Minnesota and Colorado based nonprofits that promote healthy communities, including No Barriers USA, Vinland National Center, and FamilyWise. She currently serves on the Foster Care Task Force through National Council for Adoption. In addition, she is involved in bringing Quality Parenting Initiative to Minnesota, a part of the Supervised Visitation Leadership Institute, and several policy making committees.

Mariah Cleppe, LSW

Biography

Mariah has her Bachelor's of Social Work degree from Southwest Minnesota State University and she is a licensed social worker. Mariah formerly worked as a child protection social worker and supervisor for Southwest Health and Human Services. Currently, Mariah is a Post-Permanency Navigator with Foster Adopt Minnesota. Her role is to provide resources and answer questions that arise for families after the finalization of an adoption or transfer of permanent legal and physical custody (TPLPC).

I am an Adoption and Child Foster Care licensing social worker in a county setting. I have worked in the Children's Services unit for 10 year, but the last seven focusing on licensing and adoption. I also provide some Child Protection Case Management services. I work on a variety of cases from reunification to post TPR to finalizing an adoption. Along with this, I license and case manage our traditional and corporate child foster homes in our county.

Danielle Biederman

Melissa Batalden Mendez, MSW, LICSW

Biography

Melissa joined the University of Minnesota School of Social Work’s Center for Advanced Studies in Child Welfare (CASCW) in February 2013 as the Title IV-E Child Welfare Field Coordinator. In this role, she works directly with the IV-E MSW scholars who are focusing their studies and field experiences in child welfare practice, and with public and private agencies that provide child welfare services.
