I have 15 years of child welfare experience working as an Independent Living Skills Counselor with youth in long-term foster care, a child protection social worker, a child crisis social worker and a therapist. I am currently a Human Service Program Consultant at the MN Department of Human Services where I provide foster care policy technical assistance to MN County and tribal child welfare agencies.

Amelia is the Founder and Executive Officer of the national non-profit, Alia. Amelia and Team Alia are UnSysteming the child welfare system and shifting mindsets and practice to keep children safely with, not from, their families. Alia employs a community co-design approach, working alongside parents with lived expertise and innovative systems leaders as partners to co-create new solutions to longstanding problems, while supporting the wellbeing of leaders, teams, and caregivers.

Leech Lake Foster Care and Adoption Program mission statement : To protect a child's sense of belonging to family and Tribe by promoting family preservation through the use of the seven traditional Anishinaabe values and by providing services that ensure the health, safety, and welfare of Leech Lake children. I have been working as the Guardian/Adoption Specialist for more than one year, and previously worked as a Lead Case Manager and Case Manager for Leech Lake Child Welfare for nine and half years.
